Basketball - the new internationalism
Matthew Yglesias explains why basketball is the sport world's liberal internationalism and is far superior to American isolationism (the pads and helmets of football) or imperialism (the way that baseball "follows the American flag" to the Caribbean, east asia, etc. [though actually Japan had a baseball league in the 1920s]). I guess this makes John Quincy Adams a baseball fan?

I'm all for basketball, as you know. But the world's true international sport is soccer, as most everyone outside Fortress America knows.
