Leona Helmsley - she of the $12 Million bequest to her Maltese (which now requires $100k/year protection from death threats) wants the rest of her billions to go to dogs as well.
The two people who described the statement said Mrs. Helmsley signed it in 2003 to establish goals for the multibillion-dollar trust that would disburse assets after her death. That's $5 billion for canines, zero for homo sapiens. If I ran a homeless shelter or a senior center, I'd be thinking about adopting some pets - maybe there's some funding out there for "therapy dogs."
The first goal was to help indigent people, the second to provide for the care and welfare of dogs. A year later, they said, she deleted the first goal.

Berk is expecting his check in the mail anyday now.
my dad was the helmsleys' real estate lawyer back in the 80s for a hotel they had in orlando. leona would call in the middle of the night - why? because she COULD - and my mom would answer. "is bob there?" leona would ask in her famous gravel voice. "yes, mrs. helmsley," my mom would answer and pass the phone to my dad. "how did she know it was me?" leona would say to my dad. i dunno...good guess?
and yeah, molly would like her check too.
